What’s a good age to start?
We usually recommend starting around age 10 to ensure a child has developed to meet the physical demands of the instrument, but with dedication a student as young as 7 could start picking up the bass. In some cases, students may gravitate toward bass as an alternative or primer to guitar.
Where do I find a bass?
We recommend Ibanez as a brand that makes quality basses at affordable prices. Feel free to call us or send an email and we can recommend the right size and model based on the student’s age, price point, and stylistic preferences!
What should I expect?
The barrier to entry for bass is not as high as some other instruments, so a new student can start to play along with songs they enjoy listening to relatively quickly. Within a few lessons, a student of any age will be able to find enjoyment in jamming along to simple songs as we start to build on more complicated techniques to get you ready to tackle fun and rewarding basslines!
